99 Years - Wisdom of an old man

A special 24 December

It was a great day for the Ngcamu family in kwaMaphumulo as they celebrated the birthday of their grandfather who turned 99 years this year. Mr Fanyana George “Majongosi“ Ngcamu was born on 8 August 1918 in the Vuma area in Maphumulo. He was the son of Mr Nqina Ngcamu and Mama maZubane. The celebration was held at Tshutshutshu High school in Maphumulo on 24 December 2017. The Ngcamu family said that it is a great joy that they still have mkhulu Fanyana Ngcamu in the family; he is still as strong as a young man. In his speech Mr Ngcamu highlighted things which “made him strong” until this time as healthy food and the respect for older people. He knows the whole history of the Ngcamu clan and he also fought in the Khahlambeni war in the early 1950’s. He was also the Induna (headman) of the Ngubane clan which was at that time led by Chief Ntandoyenkosi Ngubane. He then urged the youth to refrain from using drugs alcohol and live a moral life he said: "I have lived this long because I respected everyone, even a child". Mr Fanyana Ngcamu has 50 Grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. Report: Mzikayise Ndlovu and Nosphiwe Buthelezi Photos: Mzikayise Ndlovu
