Golden Arrows wins the UThukela Mayor Cup

On the 17th of July 2016, the Radio Khwezi sports Journalists attended the Final of the UThukela Mayors cup held in the AG Magubane Stadium in Ladysmith.

The stadium was filled to capacity as the spectators came to watch the two semi-final games and the final. Lamontville Golden Arrows beat Free State stars in their semi-final clash by one gold to zero to secure there spot in the final, facing the UThukela municipality who had beaten the UKhahlamba Municipality by two goals to zero to secure their final spot.

In the final, Golden arrows stunned the UThukela Municipality by winning the game. They scored three goals to zero to be crowned the 2016 UThukela Mayors Cup champions.

Golden Arrows used this tournament as a pre-season warm up and also to showcase the new signee’s talents. The couch Clinton Larsen played a lot of new talent to monitor their abilities and also to see what they are capable of.

At the tournament a number of important faces attended to enjoy the day and to show their support, like the UThukela Mayor Cllr Dudu Mazibuko, the SAFA UThukela President Mr Themba Phiri as well as a number of counsellors from the UThukela District Municipality.
