Khwezi at DDP conference
24-26 April at the Elangeni Hotel in Durban
Peter Rice represented Radio Khwezi at the DDP conference. He received a certificate of recognition on behalf of Khwezi. Radio Khwezi is now an official partner of the DDP. The Democracy Development Program (DDP) exists to deepen democracy through the promotion of good governance, democratic governance and social justice. We will soon be doing radio drama’s and talk shows together aimed at empowering and activating citizenship.
Radio Khwezi’s soccer team participated at the CFT soccer tournament that was held at Gateway, Sport Arena, on 11 February 2012.
16 different teams from all over KwaZulu Natal joined the event which started at 9am and ended round 4pm.
Besides having its own soccer team, Radio Khwezi also covered the entire event.

Caiphus Khumalo visited Radio Khwezi. Caiphus is a nature conservation scientist, working for Ezemvelo KZN. He comes from the Jozini area in northern KZN, and has been appointed to create awareness of climate change and the Cop17 conference among the rural communities in KZN.
Report on Excellence Awards in Glencoe Management Area
The Correctional Services Department under Glencoe management area, which manages correctional facilities under Umzinyathi District and uThukela District, held a ceremony of Excellence awards on 17 November 2011. Certain officials working in this management area were nominated for their good performance in correcting the morals of those incarcerated.
In order for an official to qualify for this award he/she has to be a hard worker and dedicated in his/her job, putting the lives of offenders and the interests of the department first. The awards were handed out as follows:
Good Governance – Where a member fights corruption and fraud, and promotes integrity:
Batho Pele Awards – Excelling in customer care, service to the public, responsiveness, fairness, commitment to excellence and enhancing development and growth of people:
Correctional Centre of the Year Award - A centre featuring cleanliness, neat appearance, good inspection reports and a good state of well-being of officials:

Masibambisane Award – It is won by those that excel in community empowering and poverty alleviation, as well as restorative justice:

Special Awards - Good functionality of the correctional team, with consistent behaviour in compliance with the DCS' values of integrity, accountability and respect:

The event was also attended by the Area Commissioner, Mr. BB Mchunu, as well as a representative from the Regional Commissioner’s office, Mr. Patrick Baxter and the Area Commissioner of Uitvaal Management Area, Mrs. M Mthembu. The nominees are looking forward to compete at regional level at an event expected to be held early December 2011.
The Maphumulo Spar in partnership with Radio Khwezi is renewing its mandate of serving the Maphumulo area.
