4th Annual KZN Kwande Festival

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) hosted the 4th Annual KZN Kwande Festival, a premier platform that was dedicated to advancing the creative economy, innovation, and business development. The festival took place on the 14th-15th of March 2025 at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

The MEC for Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Rev. Musa Zondi, led the discussions on the vital role of the creative economy in job creation, economic growth, and innovation, emphasizing government support for artists, entrepreneurs, and innovators.

Radio Khwezi attended day 2 of the KZN KWANDE Festival at the Durban Exhibition Centre, which kicked off with a powerful panel discussion, "Women and the Film Industry." Industry trailblazers Nosipho Van Den Bragt (CEO of Chocolate Tribe and Director of AviJozi), Ms Nokuthula Shongwe (Marketing Manager, Durban Film Office), Dr Simphiwe Buthelezi (MKRI Executive Manager; Researcher and Enthusiast), and Ms Delisile Malinga (Theatre Productions; Television & Film Actress, Industry Expert & Entrepreneur). took center stage, diving into the representation of women in film, the challenges they face, and the way forward. It was an inspiring and thought-provoking session that left the audience motivated to drive change in the industry.

Mr. Nhlakanipho Nkontwana, Head of Department for KwaZulu-Natal Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, participated in a live interview on Radio Khwezi during KWANDE FEST 2025. The discussion focused on the intersection of the Orange Economy and the ‘Glocal’ concept, highlighting strategies to empower local creative industries while fostering global connectivity and economic growth.
