The Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, under the leadership of MEC, Rev. Musa Zondi, allocated R3 million in grant funding through the Municipal Infrastructure for Informal Economy Initiative (MIIE) to uMfolozi Local Municipality for the development of the KwaMbonambi Market Stalls.
On the 6th of May 2026, MEC Zondi officially opened a project that includes 18 stalls—8 closed and 10 open—located directly within the bus and taxi rank site in the KwaMbonambi CBD precinct.
